Lexia 3 diagnostic tool PCB rework (customer reviews)

I have a cheaper lexia 3 citroen peugeot diagnostic tool (sp08-d) for only €52 and there are missing some chip, compared to the original one.

Cheap lexia 3

sp08-d-bad-lexia-3-pcb

Original lexia 3

good-lexia3-pcb

Communicated with the vendor, they say the cheap lexia 3 is designed with this kind of board as what i got.

On original interface "those caps" are resitors (473) 47k - R5 and R6. Optocouplers seems to be HCPL-063N-000E and HCPL-0500-000E. Also the filter from USB input is ACM2012D-900-2P (TDK) - most of clones have not this USB filter (2 resistors of 0 ohms are used).

On relay pcb the round red component is a varistor and original is V18ZA40P (in most clones is blue and have not the same specifications as the red one).

On relay pcb there is another optocoupler ZJYS51R5-2PT-01 (TDK) on the edge area near relays used for VAN BUS.

Some pictures from an original XS EVOLUTION PCB revision C.

lexia3-board-1

lexia3-board-2

lexia3-board-3

He tells me, there mainly are two kinds of Chinese Lexia3 from different factories. One cheaper but lack some chips, the other with full chips of high quality.

The good Lexia 3 should come with PCBs as follows:

sp08-c-lexia-3-pcb-4 sp08-c-lexia-3-pcb-3 sp08-c-lexia-3-pcb-2 sp08-c-lexia-3-pcb-1

It’s item no.sp08-c:

And it’s very kind of the vendor that he tells me, even if the PCB is designed as above, there are some different similar clones, not all HQ.

This is the comparison he shows me:

The left: good ; the right: bad

good-lexia3-vs-bad-lexia3-3  good-lexia3-vs-bad-lexia3-2 good-lexia3-vs-bad-lexia3-1

Big thanks to DIYOBD2.FR, with lots of info to help me. Finally, i adapted his advice and decided to exchange the cheap Lexia 3 for a high-quality Lexia 3 (sp08-c) with a bit more money. It works like a charm now.

New PSA-COM Bluetooth diagnostic interface fully replace Lexia 3 PP2000

This blog will introduce you a new Peugeot Citroen scan tool: PSA-COM Bluetooth diagnostic and programming interface. It can fully replace Lexia 3 PP2000 Diagbox! Below is more PSA-COM information for you:

PSACOM main unit:

PSACOM 16-pin connector:

PSACOM indicators at the other side:

Why say PSA-COM Bluetooth diagnostic interface can replace Lexia3?

PSA-COM is a dealer level diagnostic and programming interface for Peugeot/Citroen vehicles.

It can access to various electronic control units (ECUs) such as Engine, Gearbox, ABS, Airbag/SRS etc. and also can display identification, read and clear fault code memory, display and record measured values and perform actuator tests.

What about PSA-COM functions in details?

PSA-COM functions as follows:

Automatic ECU recognition

Automatic vehicle scan

ECU Identification: – finds all the available ECUs in the car by pressing the single button.

Bluetooth – wireless connectivity to your Windows laptop or tablet

Fault code (DTC) reading

Fault code clearing, with the ability to store DTC vehicle history forever

Freeze frame reading

Measured values / live data recording, fully dynamic with graphing of up to 6 data streams at a time, recording and other manipulations

Diagnostic protocol printing

Actuator tests, test components via direct ECU access

PSA-COM Special Functions:

Key programming

Service reset

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) self-test

Airbag programming

Injector programming

Power Steering calibration

ECU replacement

Car configurations

Which languages does PSA-COM support? Is it multilingual?

Yes, PSA-COM supports many languages as below:

Which operating systems can PSA-COM use?

Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10 or Linux and Mac OS/X (using Wine emulation)

Which protocols can PSA-COM support?

ISO15765, PSA2000, Bosch KW71 and PSA2

What about PSA-COM hardware information?

PSA-COM interface contains 8x ISO9141 K-Line, 1x ISO9141 L-Line, CAN-BUS and analog measurement circuits.

How to rework ICOM A2 with heatsink for Cooling chips

This is a great solution of ICOM A2 reworkwith a heatsink which is cooling both chips.

(GREAT THANKS to B1257)

Now here are some pictures about the heatsink I made.

Picture1 As you can see in my way the heatsink is made with two parts. The main center plate which will later touch the complete case for a better heat dissipation. And second the small CPU plate which is glued with a special Thermal Bound paste for FPGA chips on the center plate. You can see the compound type on the picture.

Picture2 Shows the Temp in C° after an idle running time of the head about 30 minutes, without any cooling.

Picture3 Original there are two pads for the cooling, but not one is touching the case, after a longer time the complete case will warm up in a way that the both chips are near out of max temp range, which is in a normal grade about 70°C. For our heatsink I will use a small pad for the MICREL chip to give me the right contact to my center plate. Second reason is that the pad gives me a little bit place for a realignment to center the main plate with both chips.

Picture4 You can see new srewls and bolts to compensate the new height. The screwls dimension of the innerside srewls is 2.5x12mm (countersunk bolt, this is important, because we cant fix the center place in the case if there is not enough place with normal screwls.)

Picture5 Be careful to center the plate exactly with vary the three plastic bolts, may you have to cut it a little bit. Check the space between the case and the center plate one or more times. Take care that both chips are touching the heatsink, because some cases can vary the height.

Picture6 Apply compound paste to the center plate, where the heatsink is later touching the case for the best heat dissipation.

Picture7 For the best way take care that the complete heatsink is touching the case. See the red arrow.

After the heatsink mod the temps are always inside the specs. I remember 5 hours idle running about 40.5C° room temp about 26°C.

I hope this helps you to mount the heatsink in a proper way.

So advice to all -

To avoid issues, please check the PCB design (with the cooling plate) before your buying. when buying from China, it seems diyobd2.fr is one of the safest way to make sure of things quality.
